We always celebrate on the 1st Sunday in May!
The 1st Sunday in May has a very special significance for Santa Eulalia del Rio, Ibiza.
That’s why the city celebrates what is sometimes the most important festival of the year on this day.
Are you wondering why this is the case?
The story goes that the village’s first chapel once stood on the hill between the current Sol Beach House Ibiza hotel and the Catalonia Ses Estaques hotel.
On the first Sunday in May, there was a huge landslide that swept the small chapel down into the sea, destroying everything.
The faithful were incredibly lucky at the time, as they had just left mass.
Since that day, the community of Santa Eulalia del Rio has been celebrating the fact that no one was injured or killed that day.
A miracle had happened. If you are in Ibiza, come to Santa Eulalia del Rio on May 5, 2019. The solemn mass will take place at 11 a.m. in the Puig de Missa church (also known as the “Messberg”).
From here you also have a fantastic view over the whole town and the sea.
After the mass, the highlight of the festival begins on the main street of Santa Eulalia del Rio, Carrer de Sant Jaume: a parade with lots of music and traditional costumes, with horses and colorful horse-drawn carts, Ibizan podencos as well as historic cars and motorcycles.
There are other events throughout the day, as well as various food stalls and other interesting offers.
The festival ends with a grand firework display at midnight. Come along and celebrate this day with the locals! And if you’re already in the mood to celebrate, then don’t miss the next festival in Eivissa (Ibiza Town).
Because as every year, the traditional medieval festival “Eivissa Medieval” takes place in Dalt Villa.
It starts on May 09, 2019 and ends on May 12, 2019.
Let yourself be carried away by the “medieval” hustle and bustle and life as you stroll through the alleyways of Dalt Villa.
A feast for the eyes and the palate.
